Who runs BiteWise
BiteWise is run by Jay Walden. Questions about your data, or a request to see or delete it: bitewise.admin.help@gmail.com.
What it keeps
- Your first name, email address and password (stored scrambled — nobody can read it, Jay included).
- The body details you enter — age, sex, height, weight — your goal, and any weigh-ins.
- Your diet, allergies, dislikes, budget and the meals you plan, eat, rate and swap.
- Progress photos, only if you choose to add them.
- When you last used the app, so Jay can see the trial is working.
Why
Only to plan your meals, build your shopping list and show your progress. Weight and diet are health information, so BiteWise only keeps them because you've agreed to it when you signed up. You can withdraw that by deleting your account.
Who sees it
You, and the people you've added to your household — they see the shared meal plan and shopping list, but not your weight, photos or food log. Jay can see your name, email, diet and when you last used the app, to run the trial. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers or used for ads.
Where it's kept, and for how long
On BiteWise's own server. It's kept while you use the app, and deleted within 30 days of you asking, or of the trial ending if you don't carry on.
Feedback
Near the end of your trial BiteWise asks a few questions about how it's been. Answering is up to you. Jay sees your answers with your first name, to improve the app.
Payments
BiteWise is free for 14 days, then £4.99 a month if you choose to subscribe. Payments are taken by Stripe, which handles your card details under its own privacy policy — BiteWise never sees or stores them. BiteWise keeps only whether your household is subscribed and until when. You can cancel any time from Profile, and keep BiteWise until the end of the month you've paid for.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, at the email above. If you're unhappy with how it's handled you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Allergies
BiteWise leaves out meals with the allergens you tick, but it can't know every product's recipe. Always check the label.
